I was born in a remote village of Pirganj Upazila (Sub-district) under Thakurgaon District of Bangladesh in 1972. I passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in Science Group from Setabganj Pilot High School (Dinajpur, 1987) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in Humanities from Dinajpur Govt College (1989). I completed my Honors (1992) and Masters (1993) in Government & Politics from Jahangirnagar University. I was a student of the 19th batch of the only residential public university of Bangladesh. Before of my public service career, I worked in a Tobacco Company and in a Nationalized Commercial Bank for five years.

I am a father of a son (NAFEES Faisal Akher) and twin daughters (Ruchi & Shuchi). I got married at my eighteen in 1990. My wife Arjia Begum Shirin, BA (Hons) MA (RU) is a house-wife.
